CBS: A TV producer has pleaded guilty to trying to shake down David Letterman over the comic's sexual affairs.
Robert "Joe" Halderman entered his guilty plea to attempted grand larceny Tuesday in a Manhattan court.
He is being sentenced to six months in jail and 1,000 hours of community service.
He was charged last fall with demanding $2 million to keep quiet about Letterman's love life. The case spurred the late-night TV icon to tell viewers he'd had affairs with women on his staff.
"I apologize to Mr. Letterman and his family, Stephanie Burkett and her family, and my friends and family," Halderman said after the plea, adding that he would not do any interviews.
Halderman's passport will be retained but he can petition the court to travel for work and to see his family in Colorado, CBS News has learned.
Andy Richter Slams NBC, Leno
CBS: Richter, who was filling in for Regis Philbin, was asked by co-host Kelly Ripa if he had any ill feelings toward NBC or Jay Leno. "Ah, yes, yes I do," he responded. "Why wouldn't I?"
O'Brien began hosting the "Tonight Show" in June 2009. In January, he left the show and NBC after the network decided to revamp their struggling late-night lineup, canceling the 10 p.m. "Jay Leno Show" and putting Leno back in his old 11:35 p.m. timeslot. I've got to be careful, I do. I have children. I still need work," Richter said, according to the Daily News. "But it's very frustrating, when somebody says - and especially when they're on videotape - and say, I'm going to take this No. 1 show and hand it over and hope the next guy makes it the No. 1 show, and then doesn't." In February, The Hollywood Reporter reported that O'Brien was considering a live theater tour that would take him directly to his fans. His settlement with NBC bars O'Brien from appearing on television until September, but the agreement does not bar him from doing live performances.
